The wait is over and the CVT variant of the diesel Subaru Forester has arrived. With this new model Subaru Forester, Perth drivers will find an attractive new interior to complement the smooth automatic performance.
The Subaru Forester has been a popular option within the SUV segment in previous years. However, with approximately 20% of SUVs sold in Australia being a diesel auto, Subaru realised that they were missing out on precious sales. This has now been rectified and the Subaru Forester 2015 line up now features a 2.0 litre diesel engine paired with the Subaru Lineartronic high capacity CVT gearbox. This variant will be offered alongside the six speed manual diesel option and will offer the brand a fighting chance of competing with the Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV and Mazda CX5.
The 2.0 litre diesel Boxer engine provides 110kW power and 350Nm torque but according to Subaru, the engine has been modified to reduce the noise, vibration and harshness and boost fuel economy. There have also been further changes with a new oil cooler, radiator fans, radiator and revisions to the turbocharger.
The CVT system has a manual mode which allows for seven pre-set ratios to allow “greater control” of the engine. According to Subaru, the auto transmission can enhance the off road capability of the Forester. The reason for this is that there is the hill descent control system and the X-Mode traction control off road system. This allows drivers to manage the power, torque, drivetrain and brakes to maintain traction regardless of the road conditions.
According to Subaru UK, the CVT variant offers fuel consumption of 6.1 litre per 100 kilometres and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the manual mode. The model can also offer quicker zero to 100 kilometres per hour at 9.6 seconds 0.2 seconds faster than the manual.
Aside from the performance changes, the 2015 Subaru Forester will have an updated cabin interior with revisions to the centre stack to improve the aesthetic ambiance. The model will also feature a new 7.0 inch touchscreen to control the media functions. This new unit, previously seen in the 2015 Liberty and Outback models, is anticipated to be standard throughout the Subaru Forester range. The screen will also provide a display for the reverse view camera and in the higher spec models the sat nav system. There will also be Bluetooth streaming, voice control and two USB inputs.
The interior also features new materials, more tactile controls and retains the dash top display for fuel economy data, drivetrain information and temperature controls. When driving the new Subaru Forester, Perth residents should also notice that the cabin feels more comfortable and quieter than the outgoing models. The company has included greater soundproofing around the air intake and under the bonnet to keep the noise level down.
