Subaru Outback To Help Improve Sales in 2016

With the launch of the new Subaru Outback and other vehicles in the lineup, Subaru is setting their sights on a massive boost in sales in 2016. The brand claims that their success hinges on their SUV range and Subaru Australia have for the first time achieved a four percent market share in the first five months of this year. If this sales momentum can be maintained until the end of the year, the company will be posting a record sales high.

The Sales Growth So Far:

Most of the 2016 Subaru sales growth has been due to the sales success for the SUVs in their product lineup; the new Subaru Outback, XV, and Forester. Subaru Outback car sales figures have been consistent at approximately 950 units each month. This is a massive increase of 200 units per month compared to the previous model. In the first five months of 2016, the Subaru Forester has accumulated 1425 units of extra sales. This represents a 32.2 percent growth in the year on year figures. In the Subaru passenger car range, only the Impreza managed greater sales numbers over the same period last year.

At the new Levorg local launch, Nick Senior, MD at Subaru Australia wanted to put the success of the brand into proper context. By the end of May, the brand had sold 18,900 units. He said this was an increase of 1769 units which is 10.3 percent compared to the same timeframe last year. This is particularly impressive since the industry has only grown by 3.8 percent. Senior states that these figures show that the Subaru growth is “well and truly outstripping” sales trends in the market.

Senior also said that more importantly, the brand has increased their market share from 3.8 percent to 4 percent between May 2015 and May 2016. He says that this is a “very significant” accomplishment particularly as it is a very competitive and crowded marketplace.

Plans for 2016:

Mr Senior stated that the brand is on track for sales, and he is very confident of building on the all time sales record. This was set in 2015 when the brand racked up 43,500 units sold. Unfortunately, one thing may hamper Subaru’s 2016 sales success; supply. It was stated that the Australian sales tally is contingent on supply. However, the company is due to open a new production line in Indiana, which will mean that American demand will no longer be a heavy drain on the existing global supply chain. Mr Senior did state that he had to “literally fight tooth and nail” in order to secure extra units to satisfy the local demand. In some months, this has only added up to two or three additional cars. With the impressive sales growth in the SUV segment, with sales rising by a massive 17 percent since 2005, Subaru is confident in sales for 2016 and the future.
